This image is inspired by the survey work done by Sergeant William McCollin 1864 to lay out reserves in Stó:lō territory. Governor James Douglas tasked McColl with marking off “all lands claimed by the Indians,” with no reservesto be under 100 acres. Later that same year, McColl died and the Governor retired. Three years later, the lower Fraser reserves were surveyed again andreduced in size by more than 90 percent.
The matter of the original reserves and the subsequent reductions are discussed at length in various dispatches between Victoria, British Columbia and London, UK, as well as in reports prepared by both the BC and Canadian governments.
Strategy tips
As the Royal Engineer, your most important mission is to survey the reserves. Containing the indigenous landowners on a small piece of the pie allows your gang to rob them of the rest.
